AUSTRALIAN MARITIME SAFETY AUTHORITY WORKPLACE
UNITED, CONNECTED & FLEXIBLE
The mission of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) is to ensure safe vessel operations, combat marine pollution, and rescue people in distress within Australia’s coastline. These essential operations are supported by their core values of professionalism, collaboration, dedication, and accountability. These values underpin our design to create a functional, pragmatic, and welcoming space that showcases AMSA and its people.
“The new AMSA Workplace has significantly improved the way our business operates. Our new space has consolidated our business into two connected floors, reducing operational and social siloes, increasing connection to regional teams and provides a flexible environment that perfectly suits our needs now, whilst allowing for change into the future. The design has also improved staff wellbeing and satisfaction by providing a variety of spaces that promote wellbeing and healthy social interaction in a beautifully designed setting.”
- Anke Aggio – National Property Advisor, AMSA
Supporting national and hybrid teams, the workplace design provides a variety of spaces for stakeholder collaboration, and the tools & technology teams need to perform at their best and be responsive to the needs of all customers. The design is sensitive to the existing building and prioritises locally sourced, recyclable and reusable materials & components, made using sustainable and socially responsible manufacturing processes.
In plan, the form of the building and central core follows the radial planning of Canberra’s civic centre, with the main aspect facing towards Black Mountain, Lake Burley Griffin and the Brindabellas. The spatial planning is anchored by a town hall space, creating a dynamic entry experience for AMSA staff and visitors, and unifying business and social functions. Maximising access to natural light, the built form is arranged around the building core, creating an internal landscape that ebbs and flows, softening acoustics between active and social zones.
Collaborating with AMSA’s heritage team, we created a series of spaces to showcase their comprehensive collection of heritage artefacts and artworks, celebrating Australia’s rich maritime history.
