SUPPORTING THE BALANCE BETWEEN WORK AND FAMILY

A key pillar of CommBank’s diversity strategy is helping employees return to work after parental leave. Coupled with a strong demand for child care in the Sydney CBD, the Bank decided to establish their first child care centre and selected Davenport Campbell as their design partner.

Our team delivered an innovative centre which nurtures children in a calm and inspiring environment. The centre is based upon the idea of an oasis for children in the heart of the city.
Honey Bee Child Care has become a point of pride for CommBank employees. Even if they don’t use the centre, working for an employer who has made a significant investment to support the balance between work and family life has proven to have a positive impact on staff engagement.

One of the critical success measures of this project was to achieve a 45% immediate uptake of places. This aim was quickly surpassed, with uptake hitting 65% overall and 100% in the 0-2 year age group.

Given the success of this project, CommBank are now considering building more of their own child care centres to support their other campus developments –a great measure of success. Bringing children close to the business recognises the fundamental premise that parents want to be close to their kids.
