New Birthing centre in Far-west nepal

ESG

We’re supporting the Australian Himalayan Foundation (AHF) to deliver a new Birthing Centre in rural West Nepal, providing women with a safe, hygienic place to give birth closer to home.

Access to medical care in this remote region is limited by distance, rugged terrain and a lack of funding, meaning many families still struggle to reach well-trained healthcare staff when they need it most.

Working alongside AHF’s local partners, our team is contributing construction expertise and governance to help ensure the local architects’ design is delivered safely and effectively on the ground in Lamtada, Nepal.

With the help of a new brick press, the project is using compressed stabilised earth bricks – a low-impact technology that removes the need for kilns. These interlocking bricks are produced locally, helping to lower costs, speed up construction and reduce environmental impact, with this approach projected to cut construction costs by around 25% while building skills and capacity in the local community.
